FREQUENTLY ASKED questions.
Starting therapy can come with a lot of questions, and we want families to feel informed, supported, and welcomed every step of the way.
At The SPOT, we believe meaningful support begins with kindness, understanding, and clear answers. Here are some questions we hear most often from families looking to start services with us in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
Every child develops differently, and needing extra support is more common than many families realize.
You may benefit from connecting with our team if your child is experiencing challenges with:
Communication, speech and language development
Emotional regulation
Sensory processing
Fine or gross motor skills
Feeding or picky eating
Social interaction and play skills
Attention, coordination, or daily routines
Confidence and participation in everyday activities
If you are unsure whether therapy is the right fit, we are always happy to connect, answer questions, and help guide you toward next steps.

The SPOT was intentionally created to be a welcoming, neurodiversity-affirming space for children and families.
We support children with a wide range of strengths, support needs, sensory preferences, communication styles, and ways of learning and engaging with the world. Our therapists focus on building trusting relationships first because we believe children learn best when they feel safe, connected, and supported.
We understand that every child is different, and we work collaboratively with families to create individualized supports that feel meaningful, respectful, and responsive to each child’s unique needs.
The SPOT supports children, youth, and young adults — generally ages 1 to 24. Specific age ranges vary by service or program, so please contact us to learn whether a particular program or therapist is a good fit for your child.
Absolutely. We understand that starting somewhere new can feel like a big step for both children and caregivers. Families are welcome to book either:A 15-minute in-person tour of The SPOTA 15-minute virtual consultation callThese visits give caregivers an opportunity to explore the space, ask questions, and decide whether The SPOT feels like the right fit for their child and family. To ensure we can keep the focus on building positive therapeutic relationships with children during their sessions, these tours and calls are intended for adults only. The short appointment length does not allow enough time for meaningful interactions with your child, and we want their first experience in the clinic to be calm, unhurried, and relationship-based when they begin services with us.We appreciate your understanding and look forward to connecting with you.Book a Tour

Many plans include coverage for speech-language pathology and occupational therapy, though coverage varies by plan — we recommend checking with your provider to see what's included.
We also accept several funding sources for eligible families (you can find these listed under our funding information), and families are welcome to pay privately for added flexibility. If you have questions about payment or funding, we're always happy to help you navigate the options.
Yes! We offer practical, neuro-affirming workshops for daycares, preschools, schools, and other organizations — on topics like understanding neurodiversity, creating inclusive learning spaces, and supporting diverse needs in everyday settings. Each workshop is led by our registered therapists and shaped to fit your team and the children you support.
